The new Macedonian hockey club won its first match convincingly against a Slovenian team, and next weekend in Skopje matches with Bulgarian clubs are on the schedule.

The newly formed Macedonian hockey club HC Skopje Herd had its start last weekend when it defeated the Slovenian team Dolenjske Toplice with a convincing 12-2 in its first ever game. The match was played at the “Boris Trajkovski” ice rink in Skopje.

The next day, both opponents played another match, which Dolenjske Toplice won 9-8.

Another weekend of hockey follows, again organized by the Skopje Herd. On Friday at 9 p.m., Skopje Herd and the guests from Bulgaria, Dinamo Sofia, are scheduled to play.

On Saturday, the tournament is scheduled to continue at 9 a.m. In addition to Dinamo Sofia, the participation of Red Star Sofia is also possible, a team that, however, has not yet confirmed its arrival in Skopje. A match is also planned for Sunday at 9 a.m.

The owner of the club, Canadian Cody Janzen, and the coach from the United States Nick Dilisi are satisfied with how the Skopje Herd is functioning and say that the activities so far have exceeded their expectations.

The majority of the members of the Skopje Herd are Macedonian hockey players, but there are also significant foreign reinforcements, namely four Canadians and one Slovak. Information about the club’s activities was provided to us by the hockey player of this team, Ivica Taskov.
